Alright, well if any of you guys have been following my recent posts you would know that we have two very pregnant mares, Carolina and Chelsea.

With the new family members on the way I have been really busy. For the past few weeks I have been busy building the horses some fancy new foaling stalls that will give them plenty of space to give birth and live with the babies for the next few months. I am still working on the flooring in the barn and a bit of paint, but the project is almost complete. Once I am done inside I am going to be working on setting up some new paddocks and shelters that are safe for the babies, and a round pen to help with their training. If things go as planned, I hope to start working on these things in the next couple of weeks. I am not really in a huge rush for time, but  what I learned last year is that digging 50+ post holes in the middle of summer really sucks. Plus, I would really like to get back on track with renovating the barn loft for a place for us to live. Sincet the animals will be pretty much taken care of.

Today I was working on setting up some security cameras. Because it can sometimes be tricky to tell exactly when the foaling is going to happen, we picked up a DVR and 4 night vision cameras at Tiger Direct.  With Chelsea showing signs that she may be ready to foal really early, we have to watch her really closely and check on her about every 20 minutes. These cameras make is much easier. We have a direct feed wired to a TV right in front of the bed, and we can watch it from anywhere with internet access. We still have to check on her every 20 minutes, but at least now I can do it from bed or while I am painting in the workshop.

Here is a screen-cap of Chelsea and Carolina taken with the new cameras.

The babies are coming

I havent really had a chance to work on any paintings for the past week because I have been spending my time getting ready for the babies. In a few weeks we are going to have a couple cute baby horses running around and I needed to build a place for the mommies to have the foals. The original stalls were in pretty bad shape, so it was time for an update.

Anyways, here are a few pictures of the renovation so far. I still have quite a bit of work to do, but I think it is coming along nicely. Hopefully we can find a way to keep them from getting eaten.
