Just some work I have been doing around the house. Not quite finished yet, but here are some cabinets I built and a new wall with some doors I put up.

wedding photos
So, I had a Halloween themed wedding this weekend and it was amazing. I will have have actual photos of us to share eventually, but in the meantime….. here are a few photos taken by my friend Alex Kravek of the backgrounds I build for the ceremony.
It was cold, raining, snowing and well below zero….. And almost everyone stayed inside. This is what they missed. It was worth it.
Canada’s Handyman Challenge
So, I decided to “audition” for the Canada’s Handyman Challenge TV show this year.
For my audition I had to make a project using one sheet of 3/4 plywood, so obviously I made a rocking donkey.
I Unfortunately didn’t pass the first round of cuts and have the opportunity to show my project to the judges, so I will just post the pictures of him up here.
table for Brooks
Just a table I made forBrooks Reynolds. Made from old boards I found laying around the farm and some old deck boards from a deck I rebuilt in Burlington.
spring projects
I have been very lucky over the past few months. I have had some great clients that have kept me busy almost every day with work, getting their houses ready to sell.
I have been building building hundreds of feet of privacy fence, building decks, making custom countertops, installing windows, finishing trim-work, sealing their driveways, and have even been doing some landscaping.
It was weird today not driving to Burlington, but I did manage to get some work done at my own house, and get some work done on a custom table for Brooks Reynolds new studio.
I have been working in the rain, snow, hail, wind and on one lucky day, even the sun. Here are a few pictures of some of the fences that have kept me covered in mud and soaking wet.
Mom’s Donkey Garden
This is a sign I made for my my mom for Christmas. She collects mini donkeys and I wanted to make a sign for her to put out in front of the donkey paddock.
dead batteries
so, I haven’t managed to find my camera charger yet…. so here are a few pictures of some horse jumps I made a little while ago.
They are pretty fun to build and look great when they are all painted and set up.
Another art project
So, for the past few days, I have been working on this.
I am pretty much out of regular supplies… Canvas, paint, paper…… so I made this to keep busy.
It is made of scraps of wood, random paint, some tree branches, a plastic horse feed bag, string, glue and nails.
It is pretty windy outside and the stars were blowing all over the place, so I took a blurry inside picture to show where they actually hang when they aren’t being thrown around.
anyways…. here it is…. contact me for price – chrisvalour@hotmail.com
bones
Hang this bony bastard up above baby’s crib and ensure pleasant dreams for all.
I collected a bunch of bones for this guy in the woods yesterday. I have no clue what type of animals they are from, but I can only assume that they are of the kind tasty to a coyote.
When I get a chance I am going to replace the wire holding it all together. The stuff I used is very brittle and snaps when it is bent which made it pretty hard to get it set up as I wanted.
Shelf made from firewood
So what do you do when you need a gift and have no cash? You improvise. This bad boy is made from a couple of old boards I found in the woods when we moved out here. They were in pretty rough shape stacked next to the wood stove waiting their turn to heat up the shop. I was about the feed these guys into the fire and was breaking them up with my boot when I saw the pieces line up pretty much as they are in the finished product. So I fired a few screws in there to hold them together. I chopped up a branch that was waiting in line as well and screwed those guys in from the back. And there you go. Done. The best part is that there was no sanding, painting or finishing involved. I even left the bent up rusty nails in there. They add character. At least that’s what I tell people.
I am going to make a bunch of these guys for the barn, they are great for hanging halters, leads and bridles and look like they have been here for a hundred years. I might paint some little horses on there or try some wood burning or something. Maybe hang some old horse shoes. We will see. I don’t want to make them look too good.
Anyways, here is the shelf made from firewood.
